Assignment Spotlight: Discussion Board Samples - Part 3

We are still celebrating the month of February as "Engaging Discussion Board Assignments" month. In this week's blog post I am sharing an example from my Policy in Healthcare and Nursing course. 

One of the topics we discuss in this course is community health.  Here is an example of an Discussion Board assignment I teach this topic:

Assignment

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) supports programs and initiatives to develop healthy communities. 

1. Visit RWJF Healthy Communities Website https://www.rwjf.org/en/our-focus-areas/focus-areas/healthy-communities.html
2. Browse the website and select one initiative that the RWJF supports. Some examples include 
   • Build Healthy Places Network
   • Strong, Prosperous, And Resilient Communities Challenge (SPARCC)
   • Invest Health
   • Center for Community Investment
   • Health Corridors Project
   • Green Health Partnership (GHP)
3. Describe the program
4. State how this contributes to the goal of achieving healthy communities

The topic of community health is a great one because there are many wonderful organizations that are working on very promising initiatives. I could have created this assignment with any of the many organizations out there. This could have also been a "Scavenger Assignment" where I ask students to find an organization on their own and share the initiatives they have to help communities.
