Assignment Spotlight: Operation Outbreak
Jul 07, 2020This month's Assignment Spotlight comes from Virginia Commonwealth University and is called Operation Outbreak: The Case of the Sick Swimmers. In this assignment faculty converted a traditional paper-based epidemiology case study into an online format that includes a pre-assessment.
There are 5 parts to this assignment:
- Part I: Introduction
- Part II: Hypothesis Generation
- Part III: Environmental Studies and Water Quality Investigation
- Part IV: Epidemiologic Study to Test the Hypothesis
- Part V: Control and Prevention Measures
What I really love about this assignment is that as the case unfolds, students are presented with “stop and think” questions, knowledge checks, drag and drop activities, videos and more. This case study challenges students as they progress through the actual steps of an outbreak investigation. This activity really highlights the points of making an assignment not only interactive, but REAL. Student have to put themselves in the place of the investigator and work through each of the steps.
