Ed Tech Tuesday: Adobe Spark
May 26, 2020One thing that I really encourage in online classrooms is the use of media such as videos to enhance engagement. There are so many types of media that can be incorporated into the online class, but my favorite, by far, are the original videos I create for my students. This may take the form of a video lecture, overview video, or, my favorite, a video depicting a case or scenario that demonstrates a concept the students will be learning in that Module. In this month's Ed Tech Tuesday blog post, I will be review one such tool you could used to create to create short lessons or explainer videos.
Adobe Spark is an online and mobile design app that you can use to easily create, edit and share short videos. Best of all, Adobe Spark is completely FREE to use! However, there is a paid version that includes additional bells and whistles, but there is an Adobe Spark for Educators pricing discount that can be applied.
While I LOVE the video creation feature, this is not the only thing Adobe Spark has to offer. It also gives you and your students the ability to create:
-
A Spark Video, which is a movie (that can also be narrated), and is thus best suited for oral presentations, the type of storytelling that you may have previously used slideshow software for.
-
A Spark Page, which is a highly visual text based story. Think of it as the word processor you wish you had when you were in school. As such, it is ideally suited for text-based projects and assignments that involve lots of photographs.
-
A Spark Post, which is an image optimized for social media. If you are going to be posting ideas or links (including links to Video and Page stories), then Post will create the compelling attention-grabber that you’ll need.
If you would like to see an example of what you can do with Adobe Spark, check out this great VIDEO about Lyme Disease created by Elizabeth Miles from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing: https://adobe.ly/3cO5GHb
Since there is really no risk involved in giving it a try, why not check out the features of Adobe Spark and see if it is a right fit for your needs:
