Ed Tech Tuesday: Slidesmania
Mar 30, 2021For this month's Ed Tech Tuesday post, I'll be chatting about Slidesmania, which is one of my favorite resources for fun, creative and innovative slide decks. These aren't your ordinary slide decks though! I'm talking about games, puzzles, and Choose Your Adventure type slides! In today's blog post, I'll highlight a few of my favorite Slidesmania templates, but I promise you, this doesn't even scratch the surface of this awesome resource! Let's dive right in!
If you're not already familiar with Slidesmania, it's a great site that provides FREE Google Slide or PowerPoint templates that you can use in a variety of ways. From education and themed templates, to interactive templates, this site has it all! One of the greatest features of this tool is that it is completely FREE, which is awesome! Second, many of the templates come with video tutorials demonstrating how to copy and use them, which is always helpful. Third, there are hundreds and hundreds of templates to choose from! Here are a few of my favorites:
I teach a Health Policy Course and I like using this Breaking News! template because I like for my students to keep up to date on current events. This template gives me lots of ideas of how I might link to some current event stories or even use it as a theme to have a discussion on the importance of staying up to date on current events.
The Which is it? template is an interactive trivia game template that is a play off of the Trivial Pursuit game. This template can be used in a multitude of ways including as an interactive quiz, teaching a concept, or fun, healthy competition between teams in class.
I really enjoy the Two Truths and One Lie interactive template because I like using the Two Truths and One Lie game as a course Icebreaker. It really helps student loosen up in a fun and interactive way. If you've never played this game with students, this is certainly one to check out!
Mc Krome is a fun, interactive Chrome inspired template that includes a Google home page, as well as some recently visited website thumbnails that you can be opened. It's a great template that you can use teach a concept in a fun way or create a variety of options for activities that students can choose from.
Tower Building, Elevator Pitch
I love the innovative layout of the Tower Building, Elevator Pitch template. This template can be used to teach a variety of concepts or a Choice Board activity with options for students to select from.
Morning meeting is a favorite of mine because it reminds me of the way I provide a module overview section in my online course, including a video overview and checklist of the activities for students to complete in each Module. With this template, there are sections to include each of these items.
What happened in 2B? is a fun and intriguing template that uses an investigator type theme that I think can add an edge of excitement to any concept being taught. There are lots of fun possibilities for this template.
I love the Passport template because I have been playing around with a virtual field trip idea and this template would be an excellent accompaniment to that activity. If you use virtual field trips in your course or are considering them, consider checking out this template!
There are tons more templates at the Slidesmania site that really get my creative juices flowing such as File Cabinets and Find the Treasure, but it's best for you to check out the site and begin your own scavenger hunt!
