Ice-Breaker Tuesday: Class Mascot

Today's ice-breaker is a fun activity where students compete to come up with a class mascot. This will be a great way to get everyone involved and spark some creativity for the upcoming semester.

Describe your mascot

For this online ice-breaker, students each come up with an idea for a class mascot. They will write a brief post about their idea. This could include descriptions of the mascot's appearance, personality, and any special abilities or powers they may have. Students should also include a short reasoning for why this mascot is an excellent choice for the class and how it embodies the spirit of the class.

Create your mascot and VOTE

For the next part, students must create a visual representation of their mascot using an AI tool of their choice. Students should include the picture of their artificially created mascot with their post. Once everyone has submitted their ideas, the class can vote on which one they like best. Students can easily vote by using the rating option built into many Learning Management Systems (Blackboard allows users to rate posts on a scale of one to five stars), or students can post a short reply on their favorite mascot.

The winning mascot will then be announced and used throughout the semester to represent the class and its unique identity.

Not only is this a fun way to engage students and spark their creativity, but it also allows for the class to develop a sense of community and unity. By having a mascot that represents them, students will feel more connected to the course and each other.

For a twist, and a little more variety, you can have students develop a mascot for different Modules/concepts of the course as well. This way students can select more than one winner.
