Ice-Breaker Tuesday: The Digital Vision Board
May 09, 2023Vision boards are a visual representation of your goals, dreams, and desires. We often think of them as a way to manifest our goals and dreams, but they can also be used as an educational tool as a fun ice-breaker and strategy to learn more about your students. In today's blog post, I will discuss how to create a digital vision board, why they are so powerful, and how educators can get the most out of using them with their students.
Students often enter college with a variety of dreams, goals, and aspirations. But they don’t always know how to make their objectives real or actionable. A vision board can be a great tool for them to use when setting goals and seeing where their passions may lead them.
Creating a digital vision board is simple and easy and can be done using a variety of platforms. I would recommend using a tool such as Canva or Google Slides. Start by having your students brainstorm their goals and dreams, as well as images and quotes that inspire them. They can search for representative images, which they can upload to the platform of their choice (e.g., Canva, Microsoft Word, Google Slides).
Once the vision board has been developed, you can have students share them in a discussion board or Ed Tech Tool like VoiceThread to discuss their goals and dreams, as well as how they can pursue them.
Vision boards are powerful in the sense that they provide a visual representation of students’ hopes and dreams. They help to foster student engagement by allowing them to creatively express their aspirations in an easily accessible way. Moreover, it helps to maintain structure as this visual reminder may motivate students to stay on track and work towards achieving their goals.
Educators can also use vision boards as a ice-breaker or team-building activity. By having students create digital vision boards, they can get to know one another better by understanding each other’s hopes and dreams.
