Radical Online Resource: Accredible Badges

In today's blog post, I'll be sharing a great resource called Accredible  which can be used to create fun badges for your online students. In this post, I'll share some ideas I have for incorporating them into your online course.

I was reading an article  that highlighted a fun idea that a faculty member had to increase participation in a face-to-face class using playing cards. In this activity, students could gain an "extra participation card" anytime they asked or answered a question, or if they contributed to the class discussion. Each card was worth 25 points and students could be awarded up to 4 cards.

I like the idea of doing something similar in an online class using the online badge system. For instance, you can create different types of badges for things like asking or answering questions in the discussion forum, responding to multiple students on assignments or doing extra credit. Here's an example of a badge I recently created at an Online Learning Consortium workshop with some other awesome online educators. 

You can create badges for all kinds of accomplishments in your online class, such as responding to more classmates than required, answering more discussion questions than required, answering questions from classmates, or doing extra credit work.
